Using the Negative for HLS Challenge

I received an email about the Happy Little Stampers Die Cuts Challenge this month and when I viewed all of the showcase Designers this idea just popped in my head to use a die that I bought from mftstamps. It’s called Christmas Tree cutout. I’ve been trying to figure out different ways to use this die and when I saw how Ingrid had showcased using the negative it gave me this idea.

To make this card, I first trimmed my top layer to size (3.75 X 5). I then ran the die thru the big shot to cut out my image. Once this was completed I cut a second piece for the background. On the second piece, I used the Stampin UP!  Watercolor Wash Background stamp. In order to give it the variation of color that I was looking for, I used Ranger Distress inks to ink up the stamp. I used the mini stamps in multiple spots adding a bit of different greens to the mix. Once I added all of the different shades of green, , I then used a brown for the base of the tree and stamped on my piece of paper. I then let it dry and adhered the two pieces together. Once they were adhered, I cut my background piece of black (4 X 5.25) and adhered it to my green base. I decided to use the sentiment from the Stampin Up! Stamp Set Wondrous Wreath. I stamped it in Real Red. I added dimensionals behind the sentiment and the white card base so it would pop out. I then added Pretty Pink Posh sequins to the card to give it more of the Christmas feel. Hope you enjoy your week! Let me know what you think about the card and join in the fun over at Happy Little Stampers!
